Welcome to JUS 477, Youth & Justice Summer Session I

Welcome to the course!  I'm excited to meet all of you and am looking forward to an interesting summer semester.  I would suggest taking the following steps to familiarize yourself in the class :

  • Explore the Start Here menu in the Blackboard course site if you have not done so already.  Be sure to check your technical specifications on your computer by clicking on the Technical Support folder in the Start Here  menu and doing the compatability check. Download any needed software updates and make the settings changes recommended by Blackboard's compatibility test.
  • Next, check out the Course Information tab.  This contains the course syllabus, instructor information and grading criteria for the course blog assignment.  Be sure to review the course syllabus thoroughly and post questions about the syllabus or grading criteria on the Cyberspace Cafe.
  • Once you have read the syllabus, explore the Daily Assignments tab of the Blackboard course. Click on the folder called  Week 1 : Tuesday May 31 - Sunday, June 5 2011) Course Welcome - Youth Experiences of Incarceration.     Check the weekly assignment checklist for Week 1, then click on the Week 1 folder to access the course materials for this week.
  • Click on the folder titled Tuesday, March 31st  Course Introduction and Blog Setup Instructions. This folder contains several short introductory assignments designed to familiarize you with various technologies we'll be using in this class.  There are instructions on:
    • Setting up your blog using the Blogger service.
    • Instructions on installing the Respondus Lockdown Browser and testing your settings to ensure you're ready to take the syllabus and weekly quizzes in the course.
    • Instructions on initiating a google chat and sending a message to me.
    • And instructions on posting an introduction on the Cyberspace Cafe.
  • Please set up your blog and email me your blog URL so I can post it on this main blog page for easy access.
I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you as we progress through the semester!  See you in Cyberspace!
